The purpose of class

is learning, yes?

I think it's safe to say that, when students sit through your class without learning anything new, you are failing as a teacher.

I'm all for classroom discussion, but I am NOT paying thousands of dollars per class to hear about what my peers read on the WaPo/heard on NPR-TV-BLAWGS/were told by their mothers/saw in a fortune cookie!!!!!

But most of my best learning has come from fortune cookies!

Just yesterday my fortune cookie read, "In order to receive a U.S. passport as a child born abroad of an unmarried U.S. citizen mother, the mother must have lived in the U.S. (or have been a member of the U.S. government posted abroad) for at least one year continuously. This poses difficulty for mothers living near the border with family on both sides."

See?! Maybe your classmates just aren't using the right fortune cookies...
